Privacy Policy

    The short version: HistorySearch does not collect, transmit, or store any of your data outside your browser. We have no servers, no analytics, no tracking. Your browsing data stays on your computer. Period.
  

What data is stored

HistorySearch saves the following information from pages you visit, stored locally in your browser's IndexedDB:

Page URL
Page title
Extracted page text (up to 50KB per page)
Domain name
Timestamp of visit

Where data is stored

All data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's IndexedDB storage. No data is ever sent to any external server, API, or third-party service.

HistorySearch does not request network-related permissions. You can verify this in the extension's manifest.json — there are no permissions for making HTTP requests.

What data is NOT collected

No personal information (name, email, etc.)
No usage analytics or telemetry
No screenshots or images
No form data or passwords
No cookies or session data
No browsing data from Incognito mode

Sensitive page protection

HistorySearch automatically skips pages that may contain sensitive information:

Pages with password input fields are never saved
Banking, medical, and government sites are blocked by default
Users can add custom domains to the blocklist
Incognito/private browsing windows are automatically excluded

Data retention

Data is automatically deleted after the configured retention period (7 days for free users, 365 days for Pro). Users can also manually delete individual entries or all data at any time from the Settings page.

Data export

Users can export all stored data as a JSON file from the Settings page. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to share the exported file.

Third-party services

HistorySearch does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The only external service used is Lemon Squeezy for Pro license purchases, which operates independently and has its own privacy policy.

Changes to this policy

If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be published with the extension update. Our core commitment — your data stays on your device — will never change.
